Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures 1Īn all-new ongoing series! In the glory days of the Republic, two hundred years before the adventures of Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca, the Jedi stand as guardians of galactic peace-until a powerful new adversary called the Nihil arrives. REVIEW: Star Wars - The High Republic Adventures #1 Now please give me a clear timeline! 7.5/10 Overall: The High Republic era continues to click along, with Star Wars - The High Republic Adventures #1 being a less spectacular debut, but one that was still very enjoyable. She automatically brings to mind characters like Anakin or Luke, because she’s obviously older than the toddlers or infants the Jedi Order typically abducts adopts into their service, and seeing her come close to (ugh again) Yoda will be interesting to see, assuming it happens. A lot of her deal is still mysterious, but what we do know is that she can use the force, and she’s also part of some cult that doesn’t like the force. What I’m most interested in here is the character of Zeen Mrala, the aforementioned girl on the dangerous planet. In all, though I liked this book! This didn’t feel quite as surprising or as noteworthy as it’s Marvel sibling, but that at least partially has to do with the fact that the last comic was the first High Republic story, which gave it added novelty and interest. It’s the nature of their different formats, but it has led to some small frustrations in understanding the timeline, especially without searching for one online. It’s also interesting reading these novels, which are telling complete stories, while also reading comics that are telling small pieces of stories. It feels like it takes place after it, as well as after the Marvel comic, but the problem of the issue feels directly linked to the events of the novel. It will be interesting for any Star Wars fan to see what happens next.If I have any complaints, it’s that I’m not really sure where this falls with the events of The Light of the Jedi novel. With good writing and excellent art, it pushes the story forward while looking back. Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1 creates something completely new for the first time in years. While the alien races are unfamiliar, it is easy to remember this is a timeline that has not been explored in the new cannon. Artists Harvey Tolibao and Nick Brokenshire are the true heroes of this book. Writer Daniel Jose Older creates tense situations and plenty of action scenes. When she adventures forth, Zeen runs into many things she didn’t expect, including a surprising confrontation with a planetary dictator named Tartak Vil. A Jedi Knight known as Zeen morns her loved one until she discovers that her partner may still be alive. Villain Marchion Ro and his followers (the Nihil marauders) have destroyed the space station Starlight Beacon and have cut off hundreds worlds of the Outer Rim from the rest of the galaxy. (Phase I began earlier this year.) It takes place sometime before what is known as “The Fall of the Jedi” – which is the Prequel Trilogy. This new series, subtitled Trails of the Jedi, is the first part of “Phase III” in Dark Horse’s High Republic Chronicles. Dark Horse Comics, once the only comic company to publish Star Wars content, has begun to expand past the “current” timeline with its new series, Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures. Ever since the Star Wars license was acquired by Disney, much of what came before the acquisition (in the Expanded Universe) was rebranded as “Legends.” While Marvel has yet to touch on events that are not part of the three movie trilogies, the Legends brand has been given to other comic companies to work with.
